Main Line Residential Community To Honor Veterans Next Weekend

Locals who served in World War I, veterans of all military campaigns, and modern American heroes will be honored at the Oct. 28 event.

A Main Line living community is hosting a special ceremony on Oct. 28 that will honor local veterans who served at home and abroad during World War I, veterans of all military campaigns, and American heroes of today.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, Athertyn in Haverford and the Saving Hallowed Ground will host the special event.

The ceremony will begin with the unfurling of a 20-by-30-foot traveling American Flag and a roll call to honor wartime residents of Haverford and the surrounding areas.

"We’re thrilled to honor the many American heroes throughout our community," Todd Pohlig, principal of the Pohlig organization and builder of the Athertyn community, said. "This event gives us an opportunity to remember the sacrifices they have made for our country, and we are proud to shine a light on the education, stewardship and preservation that is championed by Saving Hallowed Ground."

Members of the community are invited to join Athertyn homeowners, representatives from Haverford Township, Pohlig of Pohlig Builders, and local Boy Scout Troop 144 for this special commemoration.

Buglers of America will help mark the occasion through a patriotic performance.

Following the ceremony, participants are welcome to participate in the memorial planting of a Nuttall Oak tree at the entrance to the Haverford Reserve.

"This tree planting adds to the beauty of Haverford Reserve and its preserved open space, and will serve as a marked memorial for all in the community to remember and enjoy for generations to come," Pohlig said.

Saving Hallowed Ground is a group dedicated to promoting civic engagement and the stewardship of a community’s military history through hands-on marker and monument preservation.
