Nelly Berman School of Music Student Debuts With Philadelphia Orchestra

Nelly Berman School student to perform with Philadelphia Orchestra.

Melody Yu, winner of the Children’s Division of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s 2014 Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition, will perform as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at their Family Concert on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:30 AM. Melody will perform Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 in A Major.

Melody has been studying with four master teachers at the Nelly Berman School since the age of five. One of these teachers is NBS artist-in-residence Maxim Mogilevsky, faculty member at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Mr. Mogilevsky teaches at the Nelly Berman School throughout the year by special arrangement.

The Nelly Berman School also congratulates Athena Wang, 8, and Alex Wu, 14, who performed with the Old York Road Symphony on January 31 as winners of the Symphony’s Young Artist Competition. Athena performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto and Alex performed Elgar’s Cello Concerto No. 85, which he will also play on February 15 with the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra as winner of LSO’s Irving Ludwig Young Artists Competition.

The community will have the opportunity to hear these students perform again at the NBS annual Gala Concert of award-winning students on Sunday, May 3.

The Nelly Berman School offers individual lessons in piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, and voice. The school also offers chamber groups, a children’s String Ensemble, a jazz improvisation group, and music composition and theory classes.
