Police Blotter: Underage Drinking, Disorderly Conduct

The following information has been supplied by the Lower Merion Police Department. If arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

On Monday afternoon,  reported to news media the following incidents from the past week:

Underage drinking: Police on supplemental patrol (also known as a “cops in shops” detail) responded to the sounds of loud music on Oct. 28 at about 11 p.m. at the  on the 800 block of Montgomery Avenue in Bryn Mawr. Police say Joseph Hartumian, 20, from Delmar, Del., walked out of the apartment complex carrying a cup of beer. Hartumian, who was determined not to be under the influence, was cited for underage drinking and violating the open container law.

Disorderly conduct: Police on patrol on Oct. 28, shortly after 1 a.m., observed a white male urinating on the side of a building on the 900 block of Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr. Arrested was Ryan Hagen, 19, from Needham, Mass., a Villanova student. Hagen was cited for disorderly conduct, underage drinking and possession of a fake ID. Because he was not drunk, police said he was allowed to take a cab home.

Disorderly conduct: On Oct. 29 at 2:19 a.m., police say Leo Edward Lane IV, 21, from Berwyn, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after being spotted urinating on the door of a business at the corner of Lancaster Avenue and Water Street, near in Bryn Mawr.

Public drunkenness: After 1 a.m. Oct. 31, a police officer parked in Municipal Parking Lot 19 on Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr was approached by man who said that another male was following him, and acting aggressively toward him. The officer confronted the other man—Hilliard Branch, 22 from Scotch Plains, N.J.—who was found to be under the influence of alcohol to a degree in which he was a danger to himself, police said. Branch did not agree to a breathalyzer test and he was kept overnight in custody. Upon release, he was cited for public drunkenness.
