has been around since before I was born, and I’ve never had a bad experience there. Their “special” pizza with pepperoni, sausage, fresh mushroom, green pepper, onion, anchovy and extra cheese is one of my favorite things to eat. The thicker Greek-style pizza, which is baked in a pan rather than directly on the pizza oven shelf, has a crisp golden crunchy crust (). The abundant variety of meat and fresh vegetables ensures that this pizza incorporates all the major food groups and qualifies as a meal. It’s rare for pizza shops these days to use fresh mushrooms (instead of rubbery canned ones), but it’s a testament to the quality of ingredients Pizza Palace uses.

When I opened the pizza box, the mountain of toppings was the first thing I noticed. This is not some stingy, three-pieces-of-pepperoni-and-a-dried-green-bell-pepper-ring pie—this has it all. The slightly sweet and herb-laden tomato sauce tied it all together, although you could barely see any bit of the sauce underneath the blanket of cheese, meat and vegetables. For the less omnivorous, the tomato pies (no cheese), white primavera (spinach, broccoli and sliced tomato) or BBQ chicken (marinated, grilled BBQ chicken) would be excellent choices as well.

The Greek salad with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, feta cheese, Greek olives, green pepper and anchovies was quite fresh, and I appreciate the sprinkle of dried oregano on top. While I wasn’t a big fan of the Italian dressing, the salad was highly enjoyable with a splash of olive oil and vinegar. The salad was rather large despite being the smaller version. You can tell that a restaurant uses fresh vegetables by how long it lasts in the refrigerator. I’ve had greens turn brown around the edges the very next day, indicating the lettuce was far from fresh. My Greek salad leftovers were just as good the next day.

Pizza Palace is always clean inside, and you never have to wait for the person behind the counter to take your order. Yes, if there is a line you will wait, but you will never have to witness the end of a cell phone conversation or some other such nonsense. The service is always friendly and first-rate. For a simple family dinner I would recommend ordering a large pizza, a large Greek salad and picking up some dessert at the next door. If you have a bunch of finicky eaters, I’m sure they will be able to find something on the extensive menu. You can get fried chicken, chicken wings, a veggie burger, grilled cheese or even fried oyster platter here as well.
