Parking in Manayunk
Rumors are abound regarding the sale of the Parking lot at 147 Gay Street. I have found a listing of the property on the city Tax records site describing the 147 Lot as being owned by the City of Philadelphia dept. of Public Property.
Unlike the parking Lot at 155 Levering sold to investors, taking 20 parking spots away from the pool of parking locations, the publicly owned lot at 147 Gay Street still maintains parking for 31 cars. What I have ascertained is this rumor of the sale of the Lot at 147 Gay Street is a little premature. To transfer the ownership from the Dept. of Public Property to the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority it has to be approved. Docket # 140133 is seeking to change the status of ownership of the Lot to allow the conveyance of the lot to investors. With total disregard to the Value of our Manayunk community the investor seeks to over-build for profit. The Lot is Public Property, we in Stewardship have been maintaining the Lot for over 30 years. Policing, removing trash, trimming the trees and shrubbery with no help or involvement from the City and asking for no enumeration of any kind for our community service. Manayunk please do not give up hope. Join us in maintaining the true value of our Manayunk community by attending the Manayunk Neighborhood Council meeting on June 4th at 7:30 pm located at the corner of Cotton and Main Streets. This meeting is open to the public and the public is needed to keep this lot Public property. Please contact the Honorable Councilman Curtis Jones dist. 4 and ask him to remove Docket #140133.
