Speed Humps To Be Installed On River Road In Gladwyne
Cut through traffic from Interstate 76 and local traffic often speeds on River Road, but newly approved speed humps aim to stop speeding.
GLADWYNE, PA — Speedster on River Road in Gladwyne won't be speeding for much longer, as the Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners approved funding to add speed mitigation measures to the road.
At the April 15 board meeting, which was held remotely to keep social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic, the commissioner voted unanimously to fund speed humps on River Road in Gladwyne.
Commissioners OKed up to $60,500 to be used for the installation, which was recommended in a traffic study done by the Lower Merion Police Department. The township's designed the humps.

Township staff are working to determine where exactly the humps will be placed to maximized their effectiveness in slowing down speeders.
Commissioner Joshua Grimes at the meeting said speeding on River Road, which has as posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour, has been a persistent issue.

He said cut through traffic from Interstate 76, as well as local traffic, often speed on the road.
The road passes by many homes which are very close to the road, as well as Flat Rock Park, Grimes said.
"This is an important project," he said. "The petition for the speed humps received nearly unanimous approval form the residents of River Road."
