Many men and women are interested in training for health care careers because of the increasing demand for health care professionals. However, the prospect of four years of college and incurring student debt can be a deterrent to going back to school or changing careers.
Harcum College offers affordable and accessible career options in fields such as physical therapist assisting (PTA) and occupational therapy assisting (OTA).
PTAs and OTAs can work in sports medicine settings, rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, orthopedic practices, pediatric and early intervention practices and in work-re-entry programs for persons with disabilities. They work with all ages, from children to senior adults, and have the potential to vastly improve lives and their ability to perform life skills.

Students can complete an associate’s degree program to become a PTA or an OTA in as little as two years. Because PTA studies can be part-time or full-time and because the OTA program requires only one day of classes per week, these fields are very attractive to students with some college and/or career changes.
Regardless of which program is desired, graduates can enter the workforce, earning a professional salary while incurring less debt than enrolling in a bachelor’s or doctoral program. The median salary for PTAs is $59,440, and for OTAs is $62,940. Harcum’s licensure pass rates continuously exceed the national average. Federal and state financial aid are readily available.
