So as most of you know, this morning, and well, off and on the rest of the day, we had a pretty substantial amount of rain. I live around Sarris Candies and walk to the Senior Center in Canonsburg across from the Rite Aid/Big Fellas in town for my bus stop. It's not a long walk, 15 minutes or so. But, in the rain, the trek felt miles away.
As I was coming upon Advanced Auto Parts, two truck drivers (back to back) splashed me. I know this was not on purpose, but when you are on your way to work, that doesn't really make you feel too great.
Not only was I drenched on the way to work but my socks and tennis shoes were puddled, I had to ring my socks out twice and they were still soaked when I finally made it back home a little after 5 p.m. today.

This got me to thinking, to some extent this is what the homeless must feel like.
Yet, I feel a sense of shame because I was able to go home and shower, get dry warm clothes on, and even get food in my stomach. The homeless don’t have this, maybe some food, but, not much else. They do what they have to do to get by. They are constantly fighting the elements to survive.

I urge you, the next time you get splashed with some rain, don’t do what I did today and complain. Just think about what you have and smile.
