‘I Know, I Know’ Tom Hanks Kills it Again!

Cloud Atlas review

I knew Tom Hanks was a great actor, however, I didn’t know how versatile he really was until I saw "Cloud Atlas." Based off the 2004 novel, "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell; it takes you into six worlds in the nineteenth century to a distant post-apocalyptic future.

If you haven’t read the novel (which honestly, this time did not happen for me-I didn’t even know about the movie until a good friend told me about it!), you are going to feel a bit lost right at the beginning. The rest of the movie picks up and really is a solid film! Great acting, great writing-couldn’t ask for much better. I give it a nine out of 10.

The "Cloud Atlas" tagline says, “Everything is connected.”

That is really what the whole movie is about. It takes you into six different timelines that switch after every scene. Once you figure out what the overall theme seems to cover, it’s not too hard to grasp.

Having said that I can’t make any comparisons to the novel because I haven’t read it. However, make sure you pay attention in the movie or you may be lost.

This film is nearly three hours long, and can be a little daunting due to the complexity of all the worlds they were in. But at least for me, it was worth every second of it. One of the coolest things about this film was the fact that it took you into different worlds and many different “types” of movie styles within the same movie, part sci-fi, part romance, part comedy. It blended very well.

Another great thing I noticed was the multitude of roles that many of the characters had to portray. My favorite line from the movie was, “A half-finished book is, after all, a half-finished love affair.”

That took a special place in my soul as a writer. I’m not the biggest movie goer, but it takes me a lot to say that I would want to see a movie again at the theater but this is definitely one I would absolutely love to go see. I definitely recommend checking it out.
