Upon investigating the crash scene, police said Burns’ vehicle was traveling north up the hill when she first hit a metal pole and then struck the porch and side of the house before continuing up the hill and coming to rest on Cloverdale Avenue.

Neither Burns, nor her passengers—one of whom tried to convince police he had been the driver—were injured. She and others in the car told police that a deer had jumped out in front of the vehicle, and the crash happened when she tried to avoid hitting it.

Resident Susan Muka told police that while she was startled awake by the crash, she was uninjured.

Charges against Burns will proceed by summons, police said.
