CM Lacrosse Team Crushes Norwin

The team has been undefeated in April.

By Gary Beam

Even Mother Nature couldn’t cool down the hot streak that the Lacrosse team has been riding recently. Neither last night’s cold front speeding through the area bringing downpours and dropping temperatures nor the opposing defense could throttle the Canon-Mac offense as the Big Macs continued an unbeaten April with a 14-4 victory at Norwin last night.

After a tight one-goal lead midway through the first quarter, the victors scored six of the next seven goals, building up an 8-2 halftime lead and went on to post their ninth consecutive win. The win brings Canon-McMillan’s record to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in Division 2-Section 1 play.

Seven players scored for Canon-Mac with Matt Maletta and Connor Niemeyer setting the pace with three goals each and Nick Podlaszewski, Ben Ward and Richie Leeds contributing a pair. One of Leeds' goals was spectacular, so much so that a Norwin scorer wanted to know if anyone had gotten the goal on tape because it merited a “Top Ten” play on ESPN.

The Big Macs continue their four-game road trip on Monday as they travel to Saxonburg to face Knoch High School. Their next home game will be on Friday, May 4 against Baldwin—the only team to defeat Canon-Mac this season.
