Get Crafty with the Craft-o-Tron Machines Sunday

Both machines will be in the same location this weekend in the Burgh for a night of crafts, music, food (and even a good cause).

Lynne Kropinak of is the proud owner of two repurposed cigarette machines that travel around the Pittsburgh area "sharing the joy of what people are making in this neck of the woods."

And for the first time this weekend, both machines will be at the same locale—Garfield Artworks on Penn Avenue near Pittsburgh—for a night of crafts, food and music from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

"Feel the electricity in the air as both Craft-O-Tron machines meet for the first time at this fantastic event celebrating local creativity! Dance, eat, learn and greet the machines and their craft makers!" she said in an email.

'Tronny,' the original Pittsburgh craft vending machine, will be plugged in and shining his light on all 22 of his handmade wares. Tronny's sister, the Upcycla machine, will also be aglow with her 20 locally made crafts—all made from recycled materials.

All of their wares fit handily into boxes the size of a pack of cigarettes and are created by local artists.

What's more is 15 of these crafters will be displaying more of their work during the event, which will give attendees a chance to mingle.

"Bring some cash because you may fall in love with a handmade treasure or two or three and will want to buy something for yourself or someone lucky you know," Kropinak said in a statement. "Take a chance, get ready to feel that special feeling that comes from buying something made by someone in your own town that you got to know a little about. Make that connection!"

But there's more.

Some of the crafters will demonstrate that crafty thing they do, and there will also be hands-on activities and opportunities for attendees to try their hands at making something special to take home.

"There will also be a food truck on hand for your noshing pleasure from 5 to 7 p.m.—Pittsburgh's own Franktuary!" she added.

Treats from My Goodies Vegan Bakery will be for sale at the show.

And remember to bring a tote bag if you go—and not just one to schlep your purchases.

Organizers will be collecting tote bags for the Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project. And just as a note: Everyone who brings a tote bag (or two or three) can pick themselves a Crafty Prank Grab Bag from the Craft-O-Trons!
