Local 'Idol' Star Headlining Birthday Bash

Yes, Washington County's own Adam Brock will play at the 100th birthday celebration of Canonsburg's Perry Como.

will headline the 100th birthday bash for Perry Como May 19, Canonsburg Manager Terry Hazlett said.

Brock, who was dubbed "white chocolate" for his soulful renderings, will perform at days Saturday at 7 p.m.

Main Street Manager and festival chairwoman Nadeen Steffey said Brock's addition completes the event's goal of showcasing past, present and future music talents in "America's Small-Town Music Capital."

"This is a big deal to have Adam Brock," she said. "We're excited. Having him in the lineup is showing the progression of pop music."

Brock will be joined by . He will headline the celebration Friday. Backed by the Washington Jazz Society, Long will perform at 7 p.m. May 18 and return for a show May 19 as well.

A resident of Shirley, West Midlands, Long is a United Kingdom media producer specializing in radio production and computer technology and will be recording his first album this spring. 

Also scheduled to perform at the birthday bash is Ron DiMico’s “Crooner Classics Show,” which will be on the main stage Friday, May 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. Rounding out Friday’s performance schedule will be two other local acts continuing the musical legacy of Canonsburg—Tom Terling and Blind Date.

In addition to Brock and Long, Saturday's entertainment will feature a Barbershop Quartet Competition, contemporary Christian act Alternation and vocalists Pam Evans and Kyle Bird.

The festival will open with a cake-cutting ceremony at noon Friday, May 18 at the Perry Como statue and will feature food booths, crafts, contests and a “Perry’s Playland” area for kids. Main attractions include a “Magic Moments Theater” that will screen Como’s television shows and an "It's Impossible" scavenger hunt.

The festival will close with a public sock hop featuring ‘50s and ‘60s music at the senior center.

While the festival will be on Pike Street, there will also be a formal birthday luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn sponsored by the Greater Canonsburg Heritage Society on Saturday afternoon.
