
Betty Backner, 82, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2001 in her home after a year-long illness, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 22, 1929 in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Nettie Patczsh Lewis.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Canonsburg.

Surviving are her son, William Backner, of Canonsburg; two daughters, Mona (Jay) DeLuca, of Westfield, N.J., and Carol Backner of Canonsburg; a brother, Robert Lewis, of Houston; two grandchildren, Lauren and Elissa; and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her beloved pet, Benny.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Backner, who died March 5, 2002; her brother, Howard Lewis; and four sisters, Helen Lewis, Mary Jane Farabee, Emma Cox and Dorothy Bell.

At the request of Mrs. Backner, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to join for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Monday in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
