Obituary: Theresa Imperatore

Theresa Imperatore, 90, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 in following an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 2, 1922 in Canonsburg, the daughter of Patsy and Frances Pepe DeFilippo.

Mrs. Imperatore lived her entire life in Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and had formerly been a Gray Lady at Canonsburg General hospital, and a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild of St. Patrick.

On Jan. 18, 1954 in Virginia she married James Imperatore, who died Jan. 1, 2001. Surviving are two daughters, Jamie I (Albert Petrush) Gmiter of Canonsburg and Karen (Dale) Kovac of Chartiers Township; three sisters, Isabelle Passante and Clara (Bart) DeJohn, both of Canonsburg, and Beverly Lytle of Bethel Park; one grandson Andrew Gmiter; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to her husband are her son, John L. Leon, who died June 11, 2006, and her brother, Michael P. DeFilippo, who died Sept. 23, 2007.

Friends are welcome from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Salandra Funeral Home, 304 W. Pike St., where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick Roman Catholic in Canonsburg. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Peters Township. Memorial contributions can be made to Canonsburg General Hospital in Mrs. Imperatore’s name. The Christian Mothers and Guild will recite rosary at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
