Patch Picks: Pittsburgh Sports Jam This Weekend

All over the region this weekend there are strawberry festivals to be found. If cooking up some strawberry jam isn't quite your taste, though, perhaps you're more inclined to head to Stage AE Sunday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. for the Summer Sports Jam presented by UPMC  Centers for Rehab Therapy.

The event will include autograph signings from current Pirates and Penguins, as well as legends from all three professional sports teams in Pittsburgh. This session, presented by 84 Lumber, will include Pittsburgh Pirates Neil Walker and Evan Meek, as well as team legends Manny Sanguillen and Bob Friend (among others).

For those who prefer their players on ice, this is a chance to meet and get an autograph from Mike Rupp and Craig Adams, or former Penguin Pierre LaRouche among others. The Steelers will also be well represented with football greats Franco Harris, Rocky Blier and several more.

In addition to signings, there will be seminars on head safety and concussions as well as question-and-answer periods with members of local coaching staffs and sports reporters. For those non-fans who are dragged along, there is plenty to occupy your time and interests, too.

Local bands, including Pittsburgh native and rising country music star Bryan Cole, will be performing throughout the day, there will be a live radio broadcast from 93.7 The Fan, and there will be a variety of vendor booths and free samples. There will even be inflatables and games for the younger ones in attendance.

The best part is this action packed day is it is all free to the public!
