UPDATE: Rescue Teams Search Canonsburg Lake

Rescue teams are searching Lake for a Houston man who was reported missing after a group of friends swam across the water Friday night.

Joseph Schneider, 21, was at a party with friends at a house next door to , which abuts the overpass on the Canonsburg side of the lake, according to Chief Harry Freucht.

Four young men jumped into the water to race across the lake. Freucht said one man turned around and got out. Schneider also turned around, but was not seen after that.

The lake is only 80-100 yards wide at the point where the race took place, Freucht said. East Bethlehem Scuba Rescue team from Washington County arrived close to 1 a.m. Saturday to help in the search.

Peters and North Strabane police and fire crews have been on the scene since late Friday.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission has someone at the scene. A small, emotional group of friends and loved ones gathered to wait.
