RESULTS: 2012 WPIAL Track & Field Championships
The boys and girls event was held at Baldwin High School on Thursday night.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has received a list of the medalists from the 2012 WPIAL AAA boys and girls track & field championships, held at on Thursday night.

Congratulations to Canon-McMillan's Shawn Johnson, who took first place in the boys high jump, long jump and triple jump; Zack Soyring, who took fourth in the javelin, and Alec Rideout, who took seventh in the shot put. On the girls' side, congratulations to Mira Carrozza, who took first place in javelin; and Anna Lombardo, who took sixth place in both the discus and javelin events.
As first-place winners, Shawn and Mira automatically qualify to compete in the 2012 PIAA state championships at Shippensburg University from May 25-26, as does Zack as a fourth-place winner. Anna will also travel to Shippensburg as her javelin score exceeded the state standard.

The top four finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet, as do any athletes that hit a state qualifying standard and finish in at least eighth place.
