Collier Little League Wins East Regional Championship

The Collier/Chartiers Valley Little League team is the winner of the 2013 Intermediate East Regional Championship, and made a bit of history in the process.

This is the first year for the Intermediate division of Little League, for players who are 13 years old, so the Collier team won the Championship of the Inaugural 2013 Intermediate East Regional Tournament.

The team beat the Hillcrest Lakers of Yonkers, New York 13-2 in Long Island last week to win the title, and will represent the Eastern United States at the World Series in California.

Coach Jeff Gordon said the boys—most of whom are from Collier, with a few players from the Cannon-McMillan and Upper St. Clair school districts—have been playing together since they were 9 years old, and he couldn’t be more proud of them.

“Before the championship game I told them, ‘You deserve this,’” Gordon said. “I told them, ‘Just go out and give everything you can give.’ We’re a tough team to beat. They worked hard. They work all year round and they do well.”

The same team went to the World Series last year in a younger age division, but lost in the semifinal round.

Players on the 2013 team are: Stevie Alauzen, Reed Bruggeman, Dom Cepullio, Konnor Corchado, Hunter Gordon, Ian Hess, Caysen O’Keefe, Zack Pilossoph, Zack Rohaley, Nick Serafino, and David Yurchak.

The team left Sunday evening for the World Series in California, and the boys’ first game in the series is July 30 at 3 p.m. EST against a team from Texas.
