Wegmans Announces Groundbreaking Date For Cranberry Store

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — Wegmans Food Markets has announced a groundbreaking date for the company's first store in the Pittsburgh area.

Wegmans said the groundbreaking will occur on Aug. 13 with a planned opening date set for fall 2027.

The 115,000 square foot Wegmans is being built on a 12-acre site on Cool Springs Drive next to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Tom Jeppi, the manager of the future Cranberry store, said that the company opened its first Pennsylvania store more than 30 years ago.

"Since then, we've proudly grown our presence across the Commonwealth to 19 stores, building meaningful relationships with customers and communities along the way," Jeppi said.

"As we prepare to open our first location in the Pittsburgh area, we look forward to becoming part of the community, developing local partnerships, and delivering the exceptional service and fresh, high-quality products Wegmans is known for."

The store will feature produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli and cheese. There also will be large selection of beer and wine. as well as a market cafe that will include indoor and outdoor seating.

The store will have approximately 450 employees.

As it focuses on the Cranberry store, Wegmans reportedly is eyeing a second Pittsburgh location in the South Hills.
