From California To Cranberry: Why Did A Business Relocate?

Spectrum Location Solutions has set up shop in the township.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - The irony isn’t lost on Joseph Vranich. His company, which finds alternate locations for California companies to escape what he calls that state’s harsh business climate, also is leaving the state - and relocating to Cranberry.

Spectrum Location Solutions, which had been based in Irvine California, now occupies offices along Route 19 near the Streets of Cranberry shopping center. The company offers site-selection consulting services for manufacturing, electronics assembly, aerospace, software, financial services, healthcare and other businesses.

“I moved for three reasons – taxes, regulations and quality-of-life,” Vranich said.

Pennsylvania’s income, sales and real estate taxes are lower than those in California, Vranich said. He also is pleased to be free of what he termed “California’s notorious regulatory environment” that trigger threats of frivolous lawsuits that hurt small businesses.

But the quality of life issue also was a significant reason for the move.

“We bought a house larger than what we had in California for about half the cost,” he said. “We can afford to engage in more activities because the cost-of-living in Cranberry Township is 44 percent lower than in Irvine.”
