Cranberry Approves Water Rate Hike

Officials say the hike is needed to offset increases from West View Water.

Cranberry Township residents will see an increase in their water rates as well as a new billing system in September.

At Thursday’s board of supervisors meeting, officials approved a 4.7 percent water rate hike they say is needed to cover a corresponding increase from West View Water, the township’s only fresh-water supplier.

Duane McKee, Cranberry’s assistant township manager, said the rate will increase from $4.86 to $5.09 per thousand gallons of water consumed. The township’s water’s base rates and sewer rates will not change.

The township also will move from quarterly to monthly billing. Officials said this is one of the top requests submitted by residents.

Residents also will be able to pay bills online through the township’s website.
