Cranberry Couple Has Prom Date At Pirates Game, Dance On Field
When the Pirates became aware of the unconventional date, they made sure the night was unforgettable for the couple.

Mary Lewis had a problem. The 18-year-old Cranberry high school senior wanted to attend her prom but her boyfriend, John Marzula, 19, was too old to take her to the event.
The couple had a memorable prom night anyway.
They got dressed up and went to PNC Park to attend the Pittsburgh Pirates game against the Colorado Rockies, and Lewis carried a sign explaining why she and Marzula had donned attire not usually seen at a baseball game.

We didn’t win tonight, but we found this incredible story of love at the ballpark. Mary and John couldn’t attend Mary’s prom at her high school, so they decided to spend the night at PNC Park. A thread: pic.twitter.com/aQjJAwp20R

The sign got them on the game broadcast, where they received kudos from Pirates announcer Greg Brown.

The game itself was disappointing, as the Rockies clobbered the Pirates 9-3. But the night ended on a high note, as the Pirates graciously invited the couple to take the field after the game to dance to a classic song played at countless proms and weddings: Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight."

Before the night was over we understood that no prom night is complete without one last dance. So with the help of many good folks at the park, we took them to the field for a moment they will always remember and a dance to Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight. pic.twitter.com/yVuIclCvR0
