Cranberry Restauant Cited By State Inspectors

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Bureau has ruled a Cranberry restaurant "out of compliance" with state health code regulations.

During an Aug. 3 inspection of the House of Chen on Brandt Road, 13 violations were found. Among them:

• Mouse droppings were observed in a dry storage closet, indicating the presence of live rodents in the restaurant.

• A magnetic knife rack and the blade guard of a slicer, was observed to have food residue on it and was not clean to sight or touch.

• Ready to eat cut cabbage was found in a walk-in cooler in an open container with no cover.

• The restaurant was found to be double-stacking food items in the walk-in cooler and prep area. With food items placed on top of each other, the bottom of containers was coming in contact with unprotected food.

• Dirt and soil accumulations were found on a shelf above the kitchen prep area, the top of the kitchen dishwasher and at a work table at the end of the cook line.

• Pooling water was observed on the floor by the kitchen dishwasher.
