Cranberry Roadwork No (Orange) Barrel of Laughs

Work to occur on Interstate 79, Route 19, Freedom Road Bridge and Seneca School Road Bridge.

CRANBERRY, PA -- To wax poetic, motorists won’t be merry as they try to get around Cranberry.

PennDOT plans five road projects in and around the township this year that surely will slow down traffic. The roadwork begins Monday with the closure of the Interstate 79 Exit 85 southbound ramp to Route 19 (at Rock Lake) in Jackson Township. Route 19 northbound occasionally will close during non-peak hours during construction.

In April, PennDOT will begin repaving I-79 between Exit 76 in Cranberry and Exit 88 (Little Creek Road) in Jackson Township. The $16.7 million will result in:

  • Lane restrictions on I-79 northbound from north of Exit 78 and south of Exit 87 through early May.
  • Lane restrictions on I-79 southbound from Exit 87 to Exit 78 from mid-May to mid-June.
  • Evening lane restrictions throughout the repaving zone beginning in June.

Between June and August, PennDOT will make repairs along Route 19 in Cranberry and Jackson townships and Zelienople Borough. The work, which will go approximately from the Butler-Allegheny County line to approximately 1.4 miles south of Harmony Borough, will take place during evening and overnight hours.

In late summer, PennDOT plans utility relocation work in advance of the Freedom Road Bridge replacement over the Pennsylvania Turnpike. PennDOT also plans to replace the Seneca School Road Bridge before Seneca Valley School District resumes classes.
