Cranberry Set To Approve Two Major Residential Developments

A major apartment complex and a housing development for those 55 and older are planned.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Two major residential developments are expected to get the green light from township supervisors on Thursday, one of which will bring an urban touch to what has long been a decidedly suburban area.

Real Estate Development Associates plans a 276-unit, six-building apartment complex on 13.8 acres along brandt Drive in the area between the old Auction Barn and Executive Drive. The complex marks the first time that housing with urban-type density will be built in Cranberry’s so-called commercial Super Block.

The four-story buildings will have a courtyard clubhouse community center, outdoor pool, a trail system and the township’s first protected bike lane similar to the bike lanes in Downtown Pittsburgh. The project will include extending Brandt Drive through to Thomson Park-Executive Drive, where a mini-roundabout would be installed.

The second development would be built by Traditions of America, a Radnor, PA developer of active adult communities for those 55 and older, on a 55-acre site along Rochester Road at the Beaver-Butler County line.

The community’s 103 units would be detached structures purchased and customized by individual residents. The surrounding property, nearly half of which would remain open space, would be maintained by the plan’s homeowners association.

The development would have a community center, pool, fitness center, parklets, a trail system and streetlights. The plan’s interior street network would remain privately owned.
