CranFest To Again Celebrate Cultural Diversity

If you think Cranberry is a homogenized suburb, this weekend's event will prove you wrong.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Last year’s CranFest, a free mix of food, fun and cultural diversity celebration, attracted more than 2,000 people to the township municipal center. Township officials hope that number is even greater this year.

Presented by the Cranberry Area Diversity Network, the fourth annual Cranberry Area Folk & Food Festival will be held April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature a series of 20-minute dance and musical performances by more than a dozen different nationality groups.

Cranberry-area groups representing the cultures of places like Japan, China, Peru, Venezuela, along with several local advocacy organizations, will have information booths in the center. Food will be for sale at kiosks featuring South American, East Asia, Eastern European and South Asian fare.

In addition to the cultural emphasis, representatives of various township departments will be on hand for a Cranberry At Your Service event. Employees from public works, public safety, parks and recreation, Cranberry Highlands, technology and communications, finance, engineering, codes and customer service will be on hand to answer questions.

An assortment of township vehicles will be located behind the municipal center for the popular Touch-a-Truck interactive display. CranFest attendees can get hands-on experience with an aerial fire truck, a 20-ton dump truck, squad cars, an ambulance, golf cart and more.
