Jennings Environmental Education Center offers a two-day (12-hour) winter ecology natural history course for teachers of grades 2 and up.
Teachers will participate in both outdoor and indoor, hands-on activities and demonstrations relating to winter tree and weed identification, birds, animal tracks, evidence of insects, and animal adaptations to the physical aspects of winter. They also will gain experience with identification and field techniques and participate in selected winter activities from various supplemental curricula, including Outdoor Biology Instructional Strategies (OBIS), Pennsylvania Songbirds, Project WILD, Project Learning Tree, and NatureScope. All information, associated resources, and activities can be utilized in the classroom to help meet academic standards in Environment and Ecology.
Upon successful completion of this course each participant will receive Take a Winter Nature Walk by Jane Kirkland, Winter Tree Finder by May T. Watts, various handouts, classroom activities, and 12 Act 48 hours.
