Winter Solstice Celebration to Benefit the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh

Celebrate the Winter Solstice and the coming of new light and a new year by completing a traditional Yoga Mala of 108 Sun Salutations.

There is a special significance to 108 in many spiritual traditions, here are just a few:

  • There are 108 beads in the mala and the rosary
  • There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet and each has masculine and feminine, totaling 108
  • 1 stands for Higher Truth, 0 stands for Emptiness and 8 stands for Infinity.

While Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, it also marks the return of the light, for each subsequent day the light hours get a little longer.  We use this truth as a reminder that when the hour seems darkest, it typically signifies a turning point towards something brighter.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the practice.

Suggested Donation of $20 - all proceeds will be donated to the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.

****Modifications will be provided to accommodate all levels and allow for a more meditative flow. Participants may complete as many rounds of the sun salutations as desired - there is no requirement to complete all 108.   As you should always do in your practice, listen to your body and treat it kindly.
