Pennsylvania Turnpike Motorists Get 80-Mile Detour

A bridge replacement project will force the turnpike closure between the Cranberry and Beaver Valley interchanges.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Thousands of motorists will face lengthy detours over the weekend as an 18-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will close for 55 hours so a bridge on the toll road can be replaced.

The turnpike will be closed from 9 p.m. Sept. 22 through 4 a.m. Sept. 25 between Exit 10 (Beaver Valley) and Exit 28 (Cranberry).. Workers will be replacing a 66-year-old, 150-foot turnpike bridge over Brush Creek in New Sewickley Township, Beaver County.

The 80-mile detour will utilize I-376, I-80 and I-79. That section of the turnpike being closed carries 25,000-30,000 vehicles per day, with a peak of 1,100 vehicles per hour, so turnpike officials advise delays could occur along the detour route.
