Pittsburgh Pirates Team Up with The Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania
One-on-one skills camp for the MLSWPA players this weekend.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in first place and no one is more excited than the players of (MLSWPA).
This weekend, 40 lucky MLSWPA players will get to play ball with some of those #1 Buccos and coaches at the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Fantasy Fun Camp for Kids.
“We can’t say which Pirates will be there right now, but we are definitely going to have some of our guys and coaches out there,” said Chaz Kellem, manager of diversity initiatives for the Pirates.

Along with the players and coaches will be everyone’s favorite – the Pirate Parrot.
The Pirates are hosting the camp at the MLSWPA Pirates Charities at Graham Park in Cranberry Township.

MLSWPA was created to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play baseball. Designed with for children with disabilities in mind, the local league was created in 2009 according to of Cranberry.
Sherry is co-founder and president of MLSWPA and the driving force behind Cranberry organization. Over 280 players and 500 volunteers participate in the Cranberry MLSWPA program during their spring and fall seasons.
Participating in the Fantasy Fun Camp this weekend will be players not only from the Cranberry organization, but from the South Hills, Murrysville and Wheeling areas as well said Kellem.
“This is so exciting for the players, because they have one-on-one time with the players and coaches – they get to learn from the pros,” said Kellem.
He said the players and coaches enjoy interacting with the younger players. “They love seeing their excitement,” he said.
The children were selected from the individual organizations and will learn fielding, throwing, and hitting techniques, work on base running and just have a good time with Pirates players and staff.
The camp, which will be free for all players, will include the training, a Pirate jersey with each child’s name on the back, and lunch. The event is sponsored by Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids and its director, Jeremy Flug.
Sherry said it is a great opportunity for the MLSWPA players.
“Like all of the kids in the Pittsburgh area, ours are really excited about the Pirates and they way they are playing,” he said, “Time wise, for the camp to be held right now is very exciting.”
