Seneca Valley Girls Soccer Team Dominates North Hills, 5-0

Not even a steady drizzle could dampen the spirits of players and fans in NexTier stadium as the Seneca Valley Lady Raiders soccer team hosted the North Hills Lady Indians in a AAA, Section 2 contest. 

And that rain didn't keep the pink balloons released by both teams from rising ceremoniously into the night air in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The SV Boosters donated proceeds from their concession stand sales and a 50/50 raffle to the cause.

While the team's season didn't start on a positive note (a  1-0 loss to section rival Hampton on a penalty kick), last Wednesday's redemptive win over the Talbots and Monday's decisive 5-0 victory over the Indians has brought the Raiders to a 7-1-0 conference and 11-1-0 record overall.   

The Lady Indians struggled against a tough SV starting defense led by senior Melissa Lynskey and freshman defenders Lexus Lambert and Paige Montrose. 

Lambert surprised the Indians when she scored her first goal of the season with a long shot from the 40-yard-line that put the Raiders on the scoreboard 37 seconds into the first half. That 1-0 score would stand through the end of the half.

The second half was a different story. 

Seniors Morgan Williams and Rachel Leake led the way with assists. Junior Marykate Zahorchak, freshman Caroline Miller, and seniors Alex Bilka and Melissa Lynskey all found the back of the net to bring the final score to 5-0.

The Lady Titans of Shaler will next host the Raiders on Wednesday, October 3.
