Rudy Giuliani Coming To Cranberry For St. Barnabas Event
Former New York City mayor will receive the St. Barnabas Health System's prestigious Hance Award.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Former New York City mayor and onetime presidential aspirant Rudy Giuliani will be honored by St. Barnabas Health System Thursday at an event at the Pittsburgh Marriott North.
Giuliani will receive the health system’s Hance Award. Named after St. Barnabas founder Gouverneur Provoost Hance. the award is given annually to a person of national acclaim who exemplifies Hance’s ideals of benevolence, patriotism and service to others. According to the St. Barnabas website, Giuliani was selected to receive the award for “providing a resolute voice in tackling the toughest domestic and international issues of our time.”
Giuliani, 72, a New York University Law School graduate, was appointed in 1981 by President Ronald Reagan as associate attorney general, the third highest position in the U.S. Department of Justice. He subsequently served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

He was elected the mayor of New York in 1993 and re-elected in 1997. He ran for president in 2008 before withdrawing from the race and supporting Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
Previous Hance award winners have included President Gerald Ford, First Lady Barbara Bush, actor Charlton Heston, Vice President Dan Quayle, education secretary William Bennett, actress Debbie Reynolds, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, political leader and philanthropist Elsie Hillman and Fred Rogers of “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” fame.

Proceeds from Thursday’s event, the 117th St. Barnabas Founder’s Day, benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. The fund provides more than $7 million each year to needy patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas.
