Seneca Valley Has Super Spring Sports Season

Many of this year's teams made it to the WPIAL playoffs and beyond.

is having another super season when it comes to spring sports. Here’s a breakdown of what’s going on in Raider Nation.

Boys Volleyball

The team held the number two spot in the WPIAL rankings for the entire season and was listed in the top three spots in the PIAA for the majority of the season. The squad defeated North Allegheny in their second section meeting and has brought home a share of the section championship. The team entered this year's WPIAL championship tournament as the number two seed. On Tuesday, they lost 3-2 to Chambersburg in the first round of the PIAA state championships.

In addition to an outstanding season, the boys volleyball team also posted several players to the all-section team. These players include Chad Albert, Alex Berner, Max McCloskey Brian Pudlo and Tim Pecora.

Boys Lacrosse

The team held the WPIAL’s number one ranking for a majority of the regular season and entered the WPIAL Tournament this year seeded in second place. The boys posted a record of 17-1 overall and on Friday won the WPIAL championship game after defeating Shady Side Academy. They take on Mt. Lebanon in the first found the PIAA playoffs Wednesday at North Allegheny High School.

Girls Lacrosse

The Lady Raiders finished their season with an overall record of 11-5. The team entered the WPIAL playoffs as the defending champion and were eliminated in the first round by Shady Side Academy.

Boys Baseball

The Sons of the Connoquenessing finished the season with a section record of 10-2 and an overall record of 16-4. They earned the section championship and entered the WPIAL championship tournament seeded third. The team plays in the WPIAL championship game Wednesday against Mt. Lebanon at Consol Energy Park in Washington.

Girls Softball

The girls softball team finished the season by earning third place in their section. The team upset Franklin Regional in the first round of the WPIAL tournament, but fell in the quarterfinals of the tournament to Peters Township by a score of 2-1.

Track and Field

Senior Oliver Philogene won the WPIAL championship in the 400 meter race. Philogene set a new WPIAL record with a time of 48.4. Juniors Tom Kocur and Jayme Rutkowski earned silver medals in the boys high jump and girls javelin respectively. Junior Forrest Barnes earned a bronze medal in the 100 meter dash.

The mile relay team also medaled in 7th place and qualified for the PIAA track and field championships. The team consisted of Bradley Banks, Barnes, Andrew Schroder and Philogene.Β Β 

The team also did very well at PIAA Championships May 26 in Shippensburg. Rutkowski placed 11th in Javelin. Kocur placed 16th in high jump. The mile relay team consisting of Philogene, Barnes, Schroder and Banks placed 11th overall.

Barnes took home the 8th place state medal in the 100 meter dash. Philogene won the state gold medal in the 400 meter dash and set a new school record with a time of 47.43 seconds.
