Seneca Valley Students To Dance The Night Away

Annual Raiderthon to benefit Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Several hundred Seneca Valley School District students will be out all night on April 1, but they won’t get into trouble for violating any curfews.

About 200 students will hit the dance floor from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday for the district’s third annual Raiderthon. They’ve committed to dance or stand for the entire 12 hours without leaning or sitting to raise money for a good cause.

Proceeds from this year’s Raiderthon will benefit the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania, which provides special needs children and adults with the opportunity to play baseball in a league-based environment. League games are played at Pirates Charities Miracle League Field in Graham Park in Cranberry Township.

The first Raiderthon in 2015 raised $19,258 for the Miracle League. Last year, the event netted the league $29,264.

Raiderthon is modeled after Thon, the annual Penn State 46-hour, no sleeping or sitting dance marathon. This year’s Thon, which occurred in February, raised $10 million to support Four Diamonds, an organization that aids pediatric cancer patients treated at Penn State Children’s Hospital and their families.
