CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - For the first time since 2016, state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe will have an opponent in the Republican primary. Scott Timko, 54, filed nominating petitions in Harrisburg and will be on the primary ballot on April 28.

Timko last year announced he was running for the Republican nomination for the 17th Congressional District. He did not file nominating petitions for that office.

Timko describes himself on his Twitter page as a "husband, father, veteran, pilot, musician, small business owner and patriot."

He'll have a tall order in attempting to knock off Metcalfe, who has easily handled opponents from both parties during his 21 years in the House. In 2018, he more than doubled the vote total of Democratic opponent Christian Rieger and was reelected in a 24,405-11,572.

In his last primary fight in 2016, Metcalfe received nearly 60 percent of the vote against opponent Gordon Marburger.
