`Tarzan' Tops 5 Things To Do Around Cranberry This Weekend

CRANBERRY, PA - Although the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon will be by far the most prominent event around town this weekend, remember that there are other ways to get to a destination besides running. You also can swing from vines.

You can be reminded of that this weekend at the Byham Theater, Downtown, where Pittsburgh Musical Theater will perform “Disney’s Tarzan.” Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. on May 6 and 2 p.m. on May 7.

Disney's epic musical adventure features music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. To see high-flying excitement and hear hits like the Academy Award-winning “You'll Be in My Heart,” you’ll want to get to the Byham.

“Disney’s Tarzan” tickets start at $17.75.

Other weekend highlights:

• Pirates vs. the Milwaukee Brewers, PNC Park, May 6 at 7:05 p.m., May 7 at 1:35 p.m.

The marathon isn’t the only sporting event taking place in Pittsburgh. The battlin’ Bucs take on the brew crew in America’s best ballpark. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 20,000 fans on Saturday, kids can run the bases following Sunday’s game and of course the popular pierogie races will occur at the end of the fifth inning of both games. Pirates tickets start at $21.

• PNC Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Hat Luncheon, Schenley Park Overlook, May 6 from 11:!5 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The 19th annual hat luncheon features fashionable and creative attire, elegant headwear and beautiful settings. Guests are treated to a chic champagne and cocktail reception, followed by a luncheon featuring sophisticated entertainment in one of the city’s most beautiful settings. Being that they cost $325, hat luncheon tickets might not leave you much money left over to purchase a hat for the event.

• Pittsburgh Marathon Post-Race Party, Wigle Whiskey Garden and Barrel House, North Side, May 7 from 11 a.m to 4 p.m.

This is the event where the conquering warriors of the pavement will mingle with the general public for cocktails, whiskey sampling, a Bloody Mary Bar, live music, lawn games and food vendors. • 56th Annual Greek Food Festival, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Oakland, May 7 from, noon to 8 p.m.

The granddaddy of Pittsburgh’s Greek food festivals kicks off on Sunday and runs through May 13. Enjoy delicious homemade Greek dishes such as souvlakia, spanakopita, baklava and, of course, gyros.
