Three Rivers Arts Festival Tops 5 Weekend Things To Do Around Cranberry

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - The annual Three Rivers Arts Festival is upon us, and if history is any indication it’s going to storm badly at various intervals until its June 11 conclusion. So what?

The time-honored tradition of the heavens raining down on the arts festival doesn’t keep the event from being one of the city’s premier attractions every year. The threat of severe weather isn’t going to keep tens of thousands of people from flocking Downtown this weekend to take in the festival’s sights and sounds.

And what do those sights and sounds entail?

This weekend, they include free performances by the Minneapolis band Hippo Campus on Saturday and the punk-hip hop band Las Cafeteras on Sunday. Both shows will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Dollar Bank Main Stage in Point State Park. • Pittsburgh Riverhounds vs. Orlando City B, June 3, 7 p.m. Highmark Stadium, South Side,

There are few better ways to get your weekend kicks than going to a soccer match in a stadium along the banks of the Monongahela River that provides a spectacular view of Downtown. The Riverhounds, currently tied for third place in the USL Eastern Conference, take on the lads from Orlando, who currently find themselves in 10th place in the conference. Riverhounds tickets start at $13.

• Carrie Furnace Ghost Hunt, June 3, 7 p.m., Carrie Furnace, Swissvale.

Ghosts N’at Paranormal Adventures, Pittsburgh’s leading, perhaps only, paranormal event company, will take yinzer ghostbusters on a ghost hunting event at the old industrial site. In promotional literature for the event, Ghosts N’at states, “We have experienced many paranormal events at Carrie Furnace - including full body apparitions.” Carrie Furnace Ghost Hunt tickets are $60, proton packs not included.

• “An Act of God,” Pittsburgh Public Theater, June 3, 8 p.m.; June 4 2 p.m., O’Reilly Theater, Downtown.

Marcus Stevens stars as God in this hilarious comedy that updates the Ten Commandments. Written by David Javerbaum, former writer of "The Daily Show” and directed by Ted Pappas.This show has adult language and adult laughs, so it’s probably best to leave your little angels at home. “An Act of God” tickets start at $30.

• Foster the People, June 4, 7 p.m. Stage AE, North Shore.

The Los Angeles indie pop band is best known for the hit “Pumped Up Kicks” back in 2011, which was kind of a long time ago. The band’s most recent release “III” is an extended play three-song preview of their upcoming third album. Perhaps owing to the fact that the arts festival guarantees a good chance of rain, the show will be indoors rather than on the lawn. Foster the People tickets start at $35.
