Twice as Nice! Seneca Valley Wins Back-to-Back WPIAL Championships
The Raiders defeat the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils Wednesday.

For the second year in a row, baseball players are WPIAL champions.
The Raiders posted a 5-3 victory over the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils Wednesday night in the Class AAAA Championship at Consol Energy Park in Washington.

Seneca Valleyβs winning pitcher was senior Matt Smith. He allowed seven hits and struck out ten, according to MSA Sports Network. Carson Kessler went two for three for the Raiders, driving in a pair of runs.
Both the Raiders and the Blue Devils will move on to PIAA state playoffs, which begin next week. The Raiders will play Altoona in the first round of the playoffs Monday.

This is Seneca Valley's second baseball title since moving up to Quad-A competition and third WPIAL title overall, including the 1994 championship.
The baseball team is the second group of Raiders to claim a WPIAL spring sports title this year. On Friday, the Seneca Valley boys lacrosse team defeated Shady Side Academy to win the Division 1 championship title.
The lacrosse team also took on Mt. Lebanon in the first round of the PIAA playoffs Wednesday evening at Tiger Stadium at North Allegheny High School. The Blue Devils defeated the Raiders 8-7 in overtime.Β
