Dormont Native Brinkman Voted A Pittsburgh Rock Legend

Chuck Brinkman, Tommy James and the Shondells, The Jaggerz and Jerry Reed are the 2017 Pittsburgh Rock 'N Roll Legends inductees.

DORMONT, PA — Dormont native Chuck Brinkman’s legacy as a local radio giant is secure after he was named one of the 2017 inductees of the Pittsburgh Rock ‘N Roll Legends.

Brinkman, who once lived on McFarland Road, was named Music Broadcast Legend by a majority of the more than 1,400 public voters and 200 members of the Pittsburgh Rock ‘N Roll Legends Awards Academy of Voters. He and other legends winners will be honored at an April 27 induction ceremony at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Marshall Township.

Perhaps best known as a disc jockey and music director at Top 40 station KQV-AM from 1960 to 1972, Brinkman introduced The Beatles at the band’s only Pittsburgh appearance at the Civic Arena in 1964. He joined WTAE-AM in 1972 and also served as the station’s music director. In 1980, Brinkman was hired at WFFM-FM (which later became WHYW and WMYG). He departed WMYG in 1988 for Dallas oldies station KLUV-FM, where he worked for 17 years.
