Dormont Police Assist Castle Shannon In Armed Robbery

A Dormont police sergeant apprehended a man suspected of robbing a Castle Shannon gas station and convenience store.

Sgt. Ralf Zawischa spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description who began walking away when he spotted Zawischa’s car shortly after the Friday night Marathon station on Libary Road was robbed.

The man, identified as Christopher Veltre, 26, of Castle Shannon, said he'd been looking for police to report that he’d witnessed the robbery. But he gave conflicting accounts and appeared nervous and was sweating a lot, according to police.

His story also could not be corroborated by surveillance video.

Castle Shannon police charged him with robbery and related offenses.

Zawischa and Officer Tom Madden had responded to a call for assistance. Madden set up perimeter position near the gas station on Library Road while Zawischa drove around.
