Hollywood Theater To Mark 91st Birthday With Fundraiser

More than $7,500 of electronics equipment will be raffled off to benefit the treasured borough venue.

DORMONT, PA - The Hollywood Theater will celebrate its 91st birthday on May 6 with a party and fundraising event to benefit the historic venue.

More than $7,500 worth of premium electronic devices will be raffled off to raise money for the theater. The party will include a screening of the 1992 political satire “Bob Roberts.” The movie, which stars Tim Robbins as a millionaire businessman and entertainer seeking a U.S. Senate seat, was filmed in and around Pittsburgh.

The party will be hosted by Braddock Mayor John Fetterman and his wife Gisele. John Fetterman gained national attention last year with an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate. Gisele Fetterman Gisele is a social activist and entrepreneur who founded Freestore 15104 and co-founded 412 Food Rescue and For Good PGH.

Also attending will be nationally syndicated “Sound Advice” columnist Don Lindich, a Pittsburgh native and Hollywood Theater supporter. Lindich will assist with the raffle and answer any questions about the prizes.

Tickets for the event are $30 and include the film with special guests, the party with food catered by another Braddock restaurateur Kevin Sousa, sodas and iced teas provided by The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and five raffle tickets. Beer, wine, and additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

The Hollywood is the last of three theaters that once operated in Dormont. It opened in 1925 and has gone through various owners and prolonged closures. Since 2011, the theater has been operated by the Friends of the Hollywood Theater.
