Movie Poster Auction To Benefit Dormont's Hollywood Theater

DORMONT, PA - The movie posters that used to paper the walls of a Brentwood barber shop are being auctioned off this weekend, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Hollywood Theater.

Among the posters up for bid are designs by Richard Amsel (“The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean,” 1972) and Frank Frazetta (“The Gauntlet,” 1977). A lobby card featuring “Honor First,” a 1922 John Gilbert silent film, is thought to be the oldest item in the collection. Posters of varying sizes from such classic films as “Tarzan the Magnificent” (1960), “Superman” (1978) and “Singing Guns” (1950) are included.

The posters belonged to the late Allen Seich, the former owner of the Lamarca Barber Shop who died in 2011. Seich’s family is selling off the collection and is donating 20 percent of the proceeds to the Hollywood.

In addition, the Hollywood will auction some of its surplus inventory, including posters from “I Am Big Bird,” and “Follow That Bird” (signed by Sesame Street “Big Bird” Caroll Spinney); “La Bare” and “The Smurfs: Lost Village” (signed by Joe Manganiello); and “The Monster Squad,” signed by Andre Gower. All proceeds from the theater inventory benefit the theater.

A preview event on Sept. 8 includes a first look at the collection, as well as a showing of the documentary “24x36” A Movie About Movie Posters.” Admission is $10. Admission to the auction, which will occur Sept. 9 at 10 a.m., is free.
