Active Older Adult Program Expands at Central Bucks Family YMCA
Central Bucks Family YMCA is expanding its active older adult programming to meet the needs of a growing population in the community.

Using a group programming and membership model that has been successful for their THRIVE cancer wellness and Empower U teen girl program, the Living Active program provides specialized small group fitness programs, socialization, health education and adapted activities for seniors.
The program was developed through a shared vision between local philanthropist Marvin Woodall and Zane Moore, Y President/CEO. Doylestown Hospital provided additional crucial start-up funding and First Savings Bank signed on as a sponsor for the program. More than a dozen individual donors provided additional support for the program through contributions to the Y’s Annual Campaign.
The population of adults in Bucks County who are over the age of 65 is expected to grow in Pennsylvania through 2040, according to the Center for Rural Pennsylvania populations report published in 2014. In response to this need, the Living Active Program is designed to assist participants to better prepare for and manage health challenges unique to the aging process, working to reduce social isolation while enhancing physical health.

Betsy Payn and her Looking Ahead Advance Healthcare Planning organization which operates as a 501c3 nonprofit corporation are also collaborators of the program providing advance directive consultations for participants. Looking Ahead Advance Healthcare Planning’s mission is to teach and promote advance care planning and participate at the one-on-one level as a means to enhance personal healthcare and lifecare decisions before the need arises.
Program participants meet as a group each Monday and Wednesday morning from 9:30-11:00 am for an eight-week period. Those interested in joining the program should contact Josh Tyler, 215.348.8131, x1157.
