DOYLESTOWN, PA — A Travis Manion Foundation "Workout Of The Day" (WOD) is coming to the campus of the Delaware Valley University this weekend.
The university's Graduate Student Organization said it will be holding the workout on Saturday, May 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in honor of Marine Corps 1st Lieutenant Travis Manion, who gave his life in service to the United States on April 29, 2007.
"The Graduate Student Organization is excited to host the Travis Manion Foundation WOD on DelVal's campus for the first time this year," said Jessice Schmitt, assistant director of Graduate Advising & Student Experience. "We have many active duty, veteran and military-affiliated students at DelVal, especially in our graduate programs. This is a great way for the campus to show support to those students and military families as a while, while honoring a Doylestown hero."
The Travis Manion Foundation WOD is held annually nationwide to honor Manion's sacrifice by completing a 400-meter run and 29 weighted back squats, repeated for seven rounds. The structure reflected the month, day and year in which Manion sacrificed his life during his second tour in Iraq. The workout is easily modified to accommodate all skill and fitness levels.
The event will be held on the James A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium on Delaware Valley University's main campus in Doylestown. Resources and information about DelVal's veteran services and Graduate Student Organization will also be available throughout the event.
Delaware Valley University's association with the Travis Manion Foundation began back in 2013.
"DelVal's Janet Manion Military and Veterans Center was dedicated in 2013 in honor of the late Janet Manion, founder of the Travis Manion Foundation," said Joseph Grato, director of Military and Veteran Affairs at DelVal.
Registration is $34 per person and includes a Manion WOD t-shirt. Interested participants may register at any time, including at the door, though it is recommended to register by Tuesday, April 28 in order to receive your t-shirt before the event.
