WARRINGTON, PA — Two New York men are facing theft charges after Warrington Township Police caught them with more than $900 worth of stolen merchandise inside their minivan.
On March 19, police observed three men acting suspiciously outside TJ Maxx, communicating through electronic devices and appearing to conduct surveillance of the parking lot.
Police said the suspects then split up, changed their clothing and appearance, and moved toward Wegmans in what police said was an apparent effort to avoid detection.
After confirming a retail theft with TJ Maxx loss prevention, officers identified the primary suspect as 40-year-old Rafael De Los Santos of the Bronx. Police also contacted 35-year-old John Dawuari Alcantara-Cruz, also of the Bronx.
A search of their minivan uncovered stolen merchandise from TJ Maxx valued at $60.96, along with $856.67 worth of merchandise from Burlington Coat Factory, some still bearing tags.
Both men were placed under arrest and transported to the station where they were processed and released. At a May 11 preliminary hearing, Alcantara-Cruz waived his hearing while De Los Santos' hearing was continued.
They were charged with receiving stolen property and retail theft.
