BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Central/Upper Bucks Juneteenth celebration will take place this year on Friday, June 19 from 12 to 6 p.m. at Still Rise Farms.
"This year we rest in a restorative healing space, embrace family, and focus on the needs of the Black community," said event organizers.
Bring a chair or a blanket and spend the day with family, friends, and community. There will be food trucks, vendors, and children’s activities.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated on June 19th. The day commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Texas in 1865 - two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation took effect. The slaves in Texas were that last to learn the news of their freedom.
The celebration is being organized by the African Diaspora Collective of Bucks County, Doylestown Juneteenth, and Still Rise Farms.
Parking onsite will be limited; a shuttle bus will provide transportation between 12 and 6 p.m. to the farm from the Upper Bucks Technical School, 3511 Ridge Road, Perkasie 18944. If disabled parking is required, reach out dtownjuneteenth@gmail.com
