WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A Warrington man is facing multiple charges in a fraud scheme involving mobile orders.
On June 24 at 11:33 a.m., Warrington Police were contacted by a Virginia resident who reported that their credit card company had notified them of four unauthorized transactions attempted at two Wegmans locations. The victim reported that more than $800 in fraudulent purchases had been made using their credit card.
Officers contacted Wegmans Loss Prevention, who began reviewing the transactions. At approximately 2:21 p.m., loss prevention notified police that the suspect had returned to the store to pick up a fraudulent mobile order. The vehicle fled the area before officers arrived, leaving the parking lot with its trunk still open.
Police located and stopped the vehicle near Valley Square Boulevard and Street Road for expired inspection and emissions stickers.
The driver and sole occupant, 21-year-old Kareem Ahmed-Aly of Warrington, was taken into custody, placed under arrest, and transported to the station.
During questioning, police said Ahmed-Aly admitted to participating in a fraudulent scheme involving the pick up of mobile orders at Wegmans. He told officers that he received the orders through the messaging application Telegram and obtained the merchandise at approximately 50 percent of its retail value.
Ahmed-Aly was processed and arraigned by Judge Wertman, who set bail at $400,000 or 10 percent cash. Ahmed-Aly was not able to post bail and was transported to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
Ahmed-Aly is charged with two felony counts each of access device fraud and criminal use of a communication facility, two misdemeanor counts each of theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception, and several summary offenses.
