DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — With extreme heat forecast for the area this week, Doylestown Township has announced that it will open the township building as a cooling center on Wednesday and Thursday.

The building, located at 425 Wells Road, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for anyone who needs a place to stay cool and safe.

Due to the forecast of extreme heat and in the interest of public health and safety, Doylestown Township has also announced the postponement of this week's River of Dreams (Billy Joel Tribute Band) concert at Central Park until August 27 at 7 p.m.

The American Red Cross recommends three core steps for beating extreme heat: staying hydrated, staying cool, and staying connected.

Stay Hydrated

Drink a cup of water every 20 minutes, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid sugary, caffeinated, and alcoholic drinks, which can lead to dehydration.

Stay Cool

Spend time in air-conditioned buildings. If your home lacks AC, visit public libraries, malls, or designated cooling centers.

Limit outdoor activities to the cooler morning and evening hours, and take frequent breaks in the shade.

Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing. Cool down your skin by taking cool showers or baths, or by applying damp cloths to your body.

Stay Connected & Safe

Check on family, friends, and neighbors who may not have air conditioning or who are vulnerable to extreme heat.

Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle, as temperatures can quickly become deadly.
