Indivisible Bucks County Endorses Harvie For Congress In PA's First

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Indivisible Bucks County on Monday threw its support behind Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie in his campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania's First District.

During an event held at the Doylestown Borough Hall and attended by 75 members of Indivisible Bucks County and the greater Doylestown community, leaders of the group announced their endorsement of Harvie in his campaign to unseat Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick.

Speakers at the event included co-leaders of Indivisible Bucks County Laura Rose and Kierstyn Zolfo, and Harvie's fellow Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia.

"For all the years I have known Bob, he's the one who listens, shows up, and always strives to do the right thing," said Rose, "He's thoughtful, principled, and always willing to make the tough decisions because they are the right thing to do, not because they are politically convenient.

"At a time when our democracy is in peril, corruption is rampant, billionaires get a free ride, elected officials shamelessly lie to our faces, and we're all struggling to make ends meet, we need leaders with integrity," said Rose. "Leaders who will stand up for our democratic institutions, protect the rights and freedoms we all depend on, and never lose sight of why they are in Congress and who they serve. That's Bob Harvie. He's a good man, a dedicated public servant, and exactly the kind of leader we need representing Bucks County in Congress. Indivisible Bucks County is thrilled to endorse him — and we're ready to get to work."

Zolfo added, "The implementation of Bucks County's police co-responder program under Bob Harvie's leadership is the perfect example of his alignment with Indivisible's guiding principles of justice and compassion. Bob worked with his fellow leaders, local law enforcement, and impacted communities to provide a resolution that balanced the needs of all stakeholders. That's the kind of leader we need representing us in Washington, D.C. - someone who is prepared to meet the crises of our time, who listens to his community, whose moral compass is centered on care and service, and who is ready to find and implement creative solutions."

Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, who has served with Harvie for close to seven years in county government, said Harvie is "thoughtful, he's kind, he's honest, he's actually patient to a fault. He's smart, he's well-spoken, and he really gets things done."

Some of his achievements include the passage of the county's first paid family leave policy, the county's first sustainability program, the purchase of the county's first EV vehicle, and the placement of co-responders in 39 police departments, making Bucks the only county in the nation to achieve that level, said Marseglia.

"And close to my heart is Bob's willingness to fund so many programs that have helped people with mental health and substance abuse issues," said Marseglia, citing his support of the new DART Center and the new Bright Path Center.

He also worked "very hard" to open the new Bucks County African American Museum in Middletown Township and made it a priority "to get rid of" the ICE 287g plan promoted by former Bucks County Sheriff Fred Harran, she said.

"That steadfast movement going forward, the tenacity and creativity that Bob has is what he will bring to Congress, and that's how he will be able to make changes both in the policy area and the behavior of Congress," said Marseglia.

"He's one of those people that I have to say, because he's going to win this race in November, that historians in the future will be thanking him that he was able to get rid of a dismal, destructive, dishonest government and president we have right now."

As Marseglia introduced Harvie, applause filled the meeting room as the commissioner approached the podium to accept the endorsement.

"I am running for Congress because our country is in trouble," he said. "We know in this country we have major problems. We're not going to solve any of them until we change the people we send to Washington and change the rules for the people in Washington, and that is why I'm for overturning Citizens United," he said. "I'm fully behind a ban on stock trading for any member of Congress, members of the judiciary, including the Supreme Court Justices, and members of the executive branch. We need to know people in Washington are working for you and not working for themselves."

Harvie added, "I'm not taking corporate PAC money in this campaign. I made that pledge, and I'm going to stick to that pledge. Brian Fitzpatrick has taken over $4 million in corporate PAC money from pharmaceutical and energy companies. Where do you think his allegiances lie?"

Harvie also addressed the economy, blasting President Trump's tariffs, which he said are hurting everyone, and the War with Iran that has cost 18 American lives and is raising prices at the pump, the grocery store, and in home prices.

"I'm honored to be endorsed by Indivisible because I will be a Congressman who shows up for you, who holds town halls, who will listen to your issues, and deliver for you," said Harvie. "Brian Fitzpatrick has left us behind to give the ultra-wealthy a tax break while taking millions of dollars in corporate PAC money. In Congress, I will stand up for the needs of working families by working to make your life more affordable and root out the corruption in D.C. that weakens our country."
